The key credentials for the Altus Team directly responsible for assisting our clients include: a Vice President and a Chief Financial Officer of two major government contractors, an experienced corporate M&A attorney, an investment banker and noted M&A author and an experienced manager from both DOD and a major public federal service contractor.  Altus uses only a "no rookies" approach to providing services.


John T. Schell, III, President

John specializes in business operations, strategic planning and financial matters. He recently served for eight years as President and CEO of a technology company commercializing design technology first used by NASA. He previously had twenty years of experience as a corporate lawyer specializing in commercial and securities matters and was a partner with two national law firms, the last one being Hogan & Hartson. He is a licensed NASD representative. Mr. Schell received a BA from Auburn University and his JD from the University of Virginia.

Jack most recently served for 6 years as EVP and CFO of Alion Science and Technology Corporation, where he assisted in growing the company from $200MM to $750MM in annual revenues thru 11 major acquisitions. His career includes Senior Vice President and CFO at BTG where he directed its IPO and closed 6 major acquisitions. Prior to BTG, he was a senior executive with ManTech International, where he helped grow the company from $4MM to $200MM thru 14 acquisitions. Jack has been the Chairman of Altus Board of Advisors since 2002 and worked with Altus as a consultant prior to that time. Jack graduated from Frostburg State University with a BS degree in Business/Economics; post-graduate studies in contract law and government procurement.

Gary Nelson Gary R. Nelson, Ph. D.

Gary has more than 25 years of experience in government and technology services. He helped lead SRA International, Inc. from $2 million in revenues to $300+ million as head of business development and corporate ventures, retiring as Vice Chairman. Prior to SRA, he was a charter member of the Senior Executive Service of the federal government, serving as Associate Director of the Office of Personnel Management responsible for civil service retirement and insurance programs, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense. Dr. Nelson was also an economist with the Congressional Budget Office, Rand and the Institute for Defense Analyses. Mr. Nelson received his BS in Mathematics from Duke University and his Ph.D. in Economics from Rice University.

Jeff Hooke Jeffrey C. Hooke

Jeff has been a Director of Emerging Markets Partnership, a $5 billion private equity partnership; a principal investment officer of the World Bank Group; and an investment banker with Lehman Brothers and Schroder Wertheim, respectively. He has completed over 100 investment banking transactions on a global basis. Jeff is the author of three books that have been well-received by the investment and finance communities.  The books are titled: The Emerging Markets, Security Analysis on Wall Street and M&A, A PracticalGuide to Doing the Deal, all published by John Wiley & Sons, New York, NY.  He holds a BS from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Karin Weber Karin W. Weber

Karin has served both full time and part-time as Director of Research and Analysis for Altus since 2004. She previously worked for the US Air Force Deputy General Counsel as Assistant Program Manager and Contract Officer Representative. Prior to that, she worked as a contracted systems engineer and procurement manager for the US Navy and as an IT Project Manager at Nextel Communications. Karin received her BA in Government & Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and her MBA in Strategic Management & Public Policy from the George Washington University.
